Limiting Beliefs
What Are Limiting Beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are thoughts, convictions, or opinions that we hold onto and believe are absolute truths that actually hold us back in one way or another. This results in us not growing, achieving our goals, taking risks, seizing new opportunities, or becoming the people we deeply want to be.
These beliefs can be about ourselves such as “I’m not a confident person”. They can be about the world like “I can’t switch careers because people will judge me”. Or just life in general for instance “I should avoid confrontation at all costs”. In fact, the (four-letter) word “should” is a prime culprit when we are trying to identify limiting beliefs. Because they shine a light on what we think is "supposed" to happen or not. Either way, the result is the same: we are kept in the same imaginary box our minds have unconsciously built and trapped us in.
